Quick selection (decide in 30 seconds)

1A dependable choice for professional services: black text + generous white space (let the paper texture add natural character)

For legal, consulting, finance, property and medical aesthetics businesses, a clean layout already looks distinctly premium.

2Independent brands: add a small emblem / graphic (keep it simple)

Eggshell paper has a dense texture, so a restrained design remains appealing for longer; simply focus on the logo / name.

3For instant impact: add hot foil stamping or embossing to the logo / name (use it only as a focal point)

Concentrating the finish on one highlight gives the best value and appearance, while making the final result easier to control.

Popular quantities
Four quantity tiers

Printing note
Colour variation is normal on specialty paper
Screen colours and proofs printed on equipment other than our proofing machine should not be used as print references; the physical specialty paper is the definitive guide. For greater confidence, we recommend a small test run first.

Tip: eggshell paper has a dense texture, so ultra-fine lines / very small text can lose clarity. For the most reliable result, use medium or bold type and avoid overly fine lines.

Paper highlights (why eggshell paper is so memorable)

✅ Exceptionally dense texture: unmistakably specialty paper to the touch

Compared with an ordinary smooth card, eggshell paper has finer indentations and a more layered tactile feel.

✅ Clean white tone: ideal for layouts with generous white space

Black / dark text looks especially crisp; a clean brand presentation naturally conveys professionalism.

✅ Just-right 300gsm weight: substantial without feeling bulky

It feels reassuringly substantial when handed out, without being so thick that it becomes inconvenient to store.

Finishing options (choose these to elevate the tactile quality)

Special printing finishes (debossing / embossing / raised crystal lettering)

For a memorable feature you can feel, use a selective finish to create one focal point: a logo / surname / brand emblem works best.

Special printing finishes: coloured debossing, coloured embossing and raised crystal lettering
  • Coloured debossing: Adds tactile interest while retaining the printed colour; ideal for borders / geometric patterns / emblems.
  • Coloured embossing: Creates more pronounced relief and works especially well for a logo / initials / badge.
  • Raised crystal lettering: A delicate raised finish that is subtle yet distinctly tactile, ideal for headings / logos.

Recommendation: slightly larger, cleaner finishing areas produce the best result; overly fine details can affect forming.

Foil-stamping example (the easiest way to create a premium focal point)

Reflective metallic foil + a refined finish makes a logo / name look premium on its own; there is no need to add more.

Foil-stamping finishes: gold, silver, black-gold, white-gold, blue-gold, rose-gold or antique bronze foil
  • Most dependable choice: gold / silver foil | choose black-gold foil for a more understated look.
  • Artwork advice: Hot foil stamping / spot UV requires black separation artwork (K100% vector), and small text and fine lines must not be too small.
  • Production note: Hot foil stamping generally has a 0.5–1mm tolerance; spot UV has a tolerance of approximately 2–3mm, which is normal (allow for this in the design).

Design / layout advice (eggshell paper looks best with less, done precisely)
✅ Type and clarity
  • Use medium / bold type and avoid ultra-fine lines (the dense texture can reduce fine-line clarity)
  • Use at least 8pt for small text (especially with hot foil stamping / UV)
  • Slightly more generous line spacing gives the finished card a cleaner, more enduring look
✅ White-space strategy
  • More white space makes the eggshell texture more prominent (and naturally more premium)
  • Establish a hierarchy: name largest, job title second, contact details third
  • For the best appearance, keep just one visual focal point per card (logo or name)
✅ Finishing placement (optional)
  • Gold / silver foil: most eye-catching on a logo / name (not recommended across the full card)
  • Embossing / raised crystal lettering: understated and highly tactile; ideal for a badge / initials
  • Keep at least 0.7mm between two finishing areas; lines should be no finer than 0.6pt (0.2mm)
Artwork setup (common business-card pitfalls: size + safe area)
1
Three size boundaries (required): Bleed 96×60mm | Trim 90×54mm | Safe 84×48mm.
2
Bleed / safe area: Allow 3mm bleed on all four sides; keep important text / logos at least 5mm from the trim line for a more reliable result.
3
Colour mode: Please use CMYK for your artwork (to avoid colour shifts).
4
Image clarity: All images must look sharp at 100%; the minimum requirement is 300dpi+.
5
Outlined text + file format: Convert all text to outlines and embed all images; accepted formats are PDF / AI / PSD; AI is generally recommended for special finishes.
Black separation artwork specifications (essential for hot foil stamping / spot UV)
Item Recommended method Common mistakes
Provide a separate finishing layer
Spot Layer
Create a separate black separation artwork layer: K100% monochrome vector artwork; use one layer per finish (separate Foil / UV / Emboss layers). Treating the finish as a CMYK printed graphic or merging it with the background can cause registration and plate-output errors.
Small-text / fine-line limits
Avoid overly fine details
Recommendation: finishing text ≥ 8pt; lines ≥ 0.6pt (0.2mm); spacing between two finishing areas ≥ 0.7mm. Lines that are too fine, text that is too small and overly complex details can cause broken lines, foil bridging and an unsatisfactory finish.
Registration tolerance
Within the normal range
A spot UV tolerance of approximately 2–3mm is normal; hot foil stamping has a tolerance of approximately 0.5–1mm. Allowing space in the design gives a more reliable result. Aligning the foil content exactly over the printed content can make any registration shift noticeable.
Clearance
Keep away from the trim line
Keep finishing areas away from the trim line / die-cut area to reduce the risk of peeling under cutting pressure. If a finish runs to the edge, even a slight cutting shift can cause clipped corners or foil loss.

For the best result = use less, make it slightly larger and keep it clean. The most popular premium approach: hot foil stamping on the logo / name + standard printing for everything else. Simple, yet highly memorable.

(If you do not want to separate the layers yourself, send us the AI/PDF file. We can extract the finishing layer and provide a preview for approval.)

FAQ
Q: What is the main difference between eggshell paper and ordinary specialty paper?
Eggshell paper has an exceptionally dense texture with eggshell-like indentations and a distinctly layered tactile feel. Its clean white tone works especially well with generous white-space layouts, making it a premium yet understated specialty-paper choice.
Q: Which design styles suit eggshell paper?
A restrained, precise approach works best: black / dark text + generous white space. The texture already adds depth, so cleaner designs remain appealing for longer. It also suits professional services, consultants and independent brands.
Q: How should I supply artwork for hot foil stamping / spot UV?
Provide black separation artwork (a K100% vector layer). Finishing text should be at least 8pt, lines at least 0.6pt (0.2mm), and finishing areas at least 0.7mm apart and away from the trim line for a better result.
Q: What are the minimum and popular order quantities?
The standard minimum is 100 cards; popular quantities are 100 / 200 / 300 / 500. To test the paper feel, start with 100–200 cards and reprint as needed.
