Perfect-Bound Book (Softcover Book) | From 1 Copy • A5 / A4

Want a booklet / product catalogue / graduation yearbook that feels like a professionally published book in your hands? Perfect binding (adhesive binding) is the safest softcover option: it looks neat and the pages turn naturally. Even a single copy is available, while matte or gloss cover lamination instantly elevates the finish.

Minimum order: from 1 copy Size: A5 / A4 Cover: 300gsm gloss art card (matte/gloss lamination) Inner pages: book paper / art paper, multiple options Feature: collated sections / mixed paper stocks (more like a published book)
Quick Selection (decide in 30 seconds)

1Most Reliable: A5 | Matte-Laminated Cover + 157gsm Matte Art Paper Inner Pages

Low glare and comfortable to read; suitable for company booklets, brand introductions and layouts combining text and images.

2Photos / Portfolio: A4 | Gloss-Laminated Cover + 157gsm Gloss Art Paper Inner Pages

Richer colours and brighter images; suitable for portfolios, photo books and graduation yearbooks.

3Text-Focused: A5/A4 | Matte-Laminated Cover + 120gsm Book Paper Inner Pages

Comfortable to read without glare; book paper is also easier to write or make notes on.

Binding Method
Perfect binding (adhesive binding)
A neat spine and publication-like appearance; even short runs have a professional feel. Any application where it needs to "look like a book"
Cover Stock 300gsm gloss art card (matte lamination / gloss lamination) For a sturdier, more wear-resistant cover that is less easily scratched
Inner Page Stock 128gsm/157gsm gloss art paper, 128gsm/157gsm matte art paper, 120gsm book paper (paper stocks can be mixed by section) Image-heavy: art paper; text-heavy: book paper; for a more premium feel: matte art paper
Page Count
Cover 4pp + inner pages
4pp+12pp / 16pp / 20pp / 24pp / 36pp (other page counts available on enquiry) From simple booklets to substantial catalogues
Optional Finishes
Depending on the design
Spot colours, gold/silver foil stamping, debossing and more are available (for special finishes, we recommend sending your artwork via WhatsApp first) When the cover logo / book title needs to be "instantly memorable"

Tip: your inner pages do not all have to use the same paper stock—for example, start with tracing paper/specialty paper for a "chapter divider", then use book paper/art paper afterwards to give the book an instantly more premium, layered feel.

How to Choose Paper Stock (the results vary greatly—this section is especially useful)
✅ 120gsm Book Paper
  • Comfortable to read, with low glare and the most "book-like" feel
  • The best choice for content-heavy, text-heavy books and extended reading
  • For large dark areas, we recommend avoiding full-bleed coverage
✅ 128gsm/157gsm Gloss Art Paper
  • Richer colours and brighter images
  • Ideal for photo-heavy or product-image-heavy content
  • Choose 157gsm for a sturdier feel
✅ 128gsm/157gsm Matte Art Paper
  • Low glare, a more "premium" feel and comfortable extended reading
  • Recommended when brand booklets or portfolios need a tactile, premium feel
  • The most comfortable choice for layouts combining text and images

Artwork / Binding Margin (the easiest pitfall with perfect binding)
1
Allow 10mm for the glue margin: One side of a perfect-bound book's spine will be covered by the glued margin; leave sufficient space in the design to avoid obscuring important content.
2
Keep important content at least 13mm from the glue margin: Keep all important content (including page numbers) at least 13mm from the glue margin (10mm glue margin + 3mm safety margin). Text/images on the other edges should also be at least 3mm from the trim edge.
3
Colour Mode / Resolution: Prepare artwork in CMYK; images should be sharp at 100%, with 300dpi or above recommended.
4
Convert Text to Outlines: Avoid font substitution; embed all images/linked objects to reduce output risks.
5
File Format: PDF / AI / PSD files are accepted; for distinctive finishes such as foil stamping or debossing, supplying AI artwork is recommended for greater reliability.
Just send us your PDF/AI and we can help "check the glue margin"
The most common issues are page numbers too close to the glue margin, a cover title too close to the spine, and insufficiently safe alignment for images across a spread.
Printing Notes (follow these points for a better finished product)
1
Lamination Recommended for Large Dark Areas: Dark, full-coverage ink takes longer to dry and can cause set-off; laminating the cover/dark pages is the more reliable approach.
2
Take Care When One Side Is Dark and the Other Is Light: If the two sides of the same sheet have a large colour contrast, ink from the dark side may show through on the light side; avoid extreme contrasts in the layout.
3
Slight Differences Between Paper Batches Are Normal: Paper thickness/tone may vary slightly between batches; if consistency is critical, order the full quantity from the same batch at one time.
4
Gang-Run Printing Does Not Include Colour-Proof Matching: This is generally gang-run printing, so colour-proof matching is difficult; if colour is especially critical, discuss your requirements with us on WhatsApp first.
5
Printing Starts Once Artwork Is Approved: Please proof the content yourself first (page numbers, bleed, safety margins and glue margins); once approved, printing proceeds using the approved artwork.

(These are common printing notes; if you need special finishes / sensitive colours, WhatsApp us first about the most reliable approach.)

FAQ
Q: How Do I Choose Between Perfect Binding and Saddle Stitching?
For a sturdy cover and neat appearance that "looks like a book", choose perfect binding; If the page count is very low and you want it to open flatter, consider saddle stitching (although the appearance and sense of thickness will differ).
Q: How Is "4pp + Inner Pages" Counted?
A cover normally has 4 pages (outside and inside covers), plus the inner pages (e.g. 12/16/20/24/36pp). If you are unsure of the page count, send us your contents/pages on WhatsApp and we can help identify the most suitable option.
Q: Can I Mix Paper Stocks for Inner Pages (Collated Sections)?
Yes. You can change paper by section (for example, specialty paper / tracing paper for a chapter divider, book paper for text and art paper for image pages). The finished book will feel more like a publication and have a stronger "designed" quality.
Q: What Is the Most Important Consideration When Preparing Artwork?
The most common perfect-binding pitfall is the "glue margin": allow 10mm for it and keep important content at least 13mm away. Also use 300dpi images, CMYK and outlined text for much more reliable output.
Q: Which Is Better for the Cover, Matte or Gloss Lamination?
For a "premium, comfortable-to-view, low-glare" finish, choose matte lamination; For "brighter colours and more eye-catching photos", choose gloss lamination. For brand booklets/portfolios, matte lamination is usually more comfortable to view.
Q: What If I Do Not Have Artwork?
You can choose "Printing Banana Design": give us your content/logo/reference style and we can manage the entire process from layout through printing to the finished product.
