Your wedding invitation is the first printed piece a couple sends out to announce the good news — a way of telling the world you're about to become each other's closest person. Every couple hopes their big day goes smoothly and opens a beautiful new chapter together, so it's worth putting real thought into the invitation: it makes a better impression on family and friends and sets an elegant tone for the banquet to come.

Here's a look at some of the wedding invitations we've printed over the years.

Linen Card, Full-Colour Print (Double-Sided Gold Foil)

The illustration on this invitation is gorgeous — the Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower set against the Hong Kong Island skyline. I'd happily own a print of it myself. Because the artwork is the whole point of the card, leading with print quality is the right call, then layering other finishes on top. Gold foil is the most versatile of them all: add foil to almost any printed piece and it lifts the look instantly.

450gsm linen card is one of the better linen stocks for full-bleed printing — the print result and the hand-feel are both excellent, and it takes a range of finishes well. Do note, though, that once you print full-bleed across it, the linen texture becomes less pronounced.

Folded Pearlescent Red Card (Single-Sided Foil)

If you love traditional culture, red paper is the natural choice for a wedding invitation — ideally a deep, bright red. Pearlescent red card fits that brief perfectly and is a firm favourite with couples who want a traditional feel.

Because pearlescent red card doesn't take colour printing well, we generally advise against full-colour on it — which makes gold foil the ideal choice. Foil on red is the classic festive pairing and never looks out of place. Simply set the wording in foil and the mood is there: elegant yet correct, simple yet practical.

Cotton Card, Double-Sided Full-Colour Print (Gold Foil + Embossing)

What makes this invitation special is its cartoon theme, which makes the whole card really eye-catching, with a football-pitch element worked into the surface — we're guessing the couple are football fans. The surface was finished with embossing and gold foil, and together with the design it lifts the card's texture enormously.

Cotton card is one of the stocks couples reach for most often these days, thanks to its distinctive feel and its wide range of thickness options. Cotton gives an invitation a substantial, tactile quality. And with the current taste for an artisanal, literary-hipster look, it's little wonder so many couples choose it.
